Central Salem Parking Study

The Central Salem Parking Study is a comprehensive analysis of parking issues in the areas surrounding downtown and the Capitol Mall. The Public Works Department, working with other City departments and an 18-member Stakeholders Advisory Committee, released the Central Salem Parking Study—Final Study Report in December 2003. The City Council approved all 24 recommendations, with modifications, in May 2004. The recommendations of the Central Salem Parking Study are designed to efficiently manage the City's on-street parking supply, promote alternative modes of travel, and balance the needs of different users—including central area residents, students, commuters, businesses, and visitors.

Public Works staff, in cooperation with other departments, will be working to implement the study recommendations over the course of the next couple of years. Implementation will be coordinated through the Citizen's Advisory Traffic Commission (CATC) and City Council.
