Engineering Division

The Engineering Division is responsible for delivering projects of various types and complexity.

Our Mission

To efficiently and effectively provide engineering services, including administration, design, drafting, surveying, construction management, and clerical, through a combination of staff and consultant efforts in support of Capital Improvement, Construction Permit, Plat Checking, and Records Programs.

Engineering Administrative Services

The Engineering Administrative Services program encompasses administration and support services.

Administration

Includes budgeting and financial management, standards review and development, construction plan approval, program development and review, management of special projects, response to general public inquiries, staff training, and quality assurance of all Engineering Division programs.

Contract Services

Provides contract document preparation, RFP preparation, permit issuance, contractor payments, contractor bill paying, filing records, and other general office responsibilities.

Engineering Project Management

This program is organized into three project delivery teams, each led by an Assistant City Engineer and staffed by professional engineers, graduate engineers, and computer-assisted drafting and design (CADD) technicians. They perform full-service project management services from inception to completion of both in-house designed projects and consultant-designed projects. Services include design, project management, consultant management, and construction contract administration. Additionally, they provide capital planning services consisting of programming and planning needed infrastructure funding and improvements, project scoping, conceptual design services, project evaluation, and developing project delivery plans.

Approximately 80 percent of projects are contracted out for design; all projects are contracted out for construction.

Engineering Technical Services

The Engineering Technical Services program encompasses records, survey, and construction inspection. Information such as Utility Grid Maps, Plat Status, and Survey Benchmarks is available in our Publications section.

Records

Includes maintaining a comprehensive GIS database of public infrastructure overlaying a controlled land parcel and photo map base, and production of GIS products. 

Construction Inspection

Provides construction inspection services in support of the Engineering Project Management program and construction permit programs. Drafts construction improvement agreements for the construction permit program and monitors the program to ensure compliance. Participates in standards review and development. Checks all land subdivisions by development, checks and processes easement and warranty deed documents, and provides boundary, topographic, and construction survey in support of the Engineering Project Management program and other City division and department programs.

Surveying

Completes review tasks pertaining to land subdivision, easement, and warranty deed documents. In addition, provides boundary, topographic, and construction surveying in support of Public Works and other City departments.
