Volunteer Opportunities

There are a lot of things you can do to make a difference in improving the rivers and streams that run through Salem. Below are a list of activities or organizations that can help you get involved.

Storm Drain Stenciling:

Paint the message "Dump NO Waste - Drains To Stream" next to storm water catch basins on streets to keep pollutants out of streams. This is a great family, school, scout, or service organization activity.

Storm Drain Marking:

The "next generation" in protecting streams from storm drain pollutants! Markers are glued onto the curbs above storm drains. Another great community service project for families or organizations.

Adopt-A-Stream:

Collect data on habitat, water quality, and stream flow. This is typically a classroom project (grades 4 and up) for area schools.

Join a Watershed Council:

These groups are involved in a variety of monitoring and restoration projects on the streams and wetlands in their watershed. To find your watershed go to Salem's streams and watershed page.
