Welcome to the Salem Police Department's web page. I hope the information we provide about our organization will help you become familiar with our officers and the services we provide.
The men and women of the Salem Police Department are highly dedicated and well-trained professionals who are strongly committed to maintaining a safe community. We set our priorities based upon input from the people we serve and strive to eliminate conditions which impact the quality of life we all want as Salem residents. Our goals are simple; provide the best service possible whenever we are called upon, and continue to maintain excellent relations with all areas of our community.
Salem's officers are proactive in their fight against crime and strive to promote community-oriented policing by developing effective partnerships, identifying root causes of crime and implementing solutions which will reduce crime and increase safety. Engaging and involving the community to work with us in developing new and innovative ways to reduce crime and deter criminal behavior is important to us. When community members and the police work together, there is always a positive outcome.
Like many communities in Oregon and around the nation, drugs, and more specifically Methamphetamine, generate both criminal and social issues in Salem. Our department works closely with other governmental agencies, the business community and a variety of committed community leaders in a combined effort to combat the destructive impacts meth has on our citizens. In conjunction with partners such as the District Attorney, the Sheriff, and social service agencies throughout the region, we work hard to maximize our resources to better deal with any and all types of criminal activity.
We are proud of our community and the officers who work so hard to help make Salem an enjoyable and safe place to live. Our goal is to reduce the fear of crime, protect individual rights, and enhance the quality of life for all the people of Salem. I encourage you to get involved and be a part of our community efforts.
Sincerely,
Jerry Moore Chief of Police
