About the Discovery Room
The Discovery Room was created through a grant funded by the Salem Rotary Club in 1986. It is an exciting "hands-on" interactive educational activity room for children of all ages. Located on the second floor of Salem Public Library's Central Library , the Discovery Room offers fun opportunities that encourage problem solving, creating thinking, imagination, and understanding. The theme of the Discovery Room changes four times each year, so each interactive experience is available for about three months.
Visitors are encouraged to continue learning about the topics highlighted in the Discovery Room by exploring books and other materials available in the library. A special shelf outside the Discovery Room offers additional reading. Schools and daycares are welcomed. As the Discovery Room is limited to 35 visitors at a time, school and daycare groups are encourage to make special arrangements to visit on a Thursday or Friday morning. Group visits can be scheduled at the Youth Services Reference Desk in person or by phone at 503-588-6088.
