Citizen Safety Programs

These programs are designed to provide families with safety equipment they may not otherwise be able to afford.  To be eligible for any of the free safety equipment programs, families must reside inside the City of Salem, or within the Salem Suburban Rural Fire Protection District.

All equipment is funded solely through grants and donations, and available while supplies last.

Contact the Salem Fire Department for more information on any of these programs

Smoke Detector Program

The objective of the Smoke Detector Program is to provide a working smoke detector for every household. Studies have shown the presence of a working smoke detector increases survival rates in house fires by 50%.

Bicycle Safety and Bicycle Helmet Programs

The Bicycle Helmet Program provides free bicycle helmets to children of families that cannot otherwise afford them. The bicycle helmets are funded solely through donations from citizen organizations. In addition, The Bicycle Safety Program sponsors an annual Bicycle Safety Rodeo that teaches participants proper helmet fitting, proper operation and overall bicycle safety techniques.

Life Jacket Program

The Life Jacket Program provides free life jacket to children of families that cannot otherwise afford them. The life jackets are funded solely through donations from citizen organizations.
